Gateway Player's Drama Group
The Gateway Players is a theatrical group who specialize in Dinner Theatre and Shakespeare. During the past seasons, the Gateway Players have had the opportunity to perform in two theatrical productions: Dinner with Dickens and Dinner with Shakespeare. Both productions have been a great success, and the guests have had the pleasure of enjoying not only great theater, but fabulous food provided by Tina's Cocina.
In addition to performing it's own productions, the Gateway Players also collaborate with other theater groups for larger productions. In previous shows, the Gateway Players have collaborated with 5 Point Theater in Shakespeare's Othello and with AWC Theater in Shakespeare's King Lear. In the Fall of 2011, Jonathan Close and Ed Villavert participated in AWC Theater's production of Stand and Deliver (upper right), with Jon playing the role of Jaime Escalante and Ed playing the principal, Mr. Molina. In the Spring and Summer of 2012, both Jonathan and Ed played the leading roles (Hamlet & Claudius) in AWC Theater's production of Hamlet (lower right). In the Spring of 2013, Jonathan Close directed Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice while Ed Villavert played the leading role as Antonio. Most recently, Jonathan Close played the leading role in Harvey as Elwood P. Dowd in a collaborative effort with Yuma Community Theater.
